1239 N Dearborn | An Earnest Row House
Hard to imagine but in 1921, on the 4th floor of the row house to the left, once lived newlyweds Ernest & Hadley Hemingway.
Years later in the book— Paris Without End: The True Story of Hemingway's First Wife By Gioia Diliberto it was said,
"Hadley's married life began in a cramped, shabby apartment in a poor neighborhood. The grimy, top-floor walk-up was at 1239 North Dearborn Street in a run-down section of Chicago.”
But, trust me when I tell you, a walk around the Gold Coast today makes a very different impression! 💰
Earnestly enough Hemingway remains a figurehead in the Gold Coast. Literally. He can be found hanging out behind the grocery store with a group of authors honored by a mural behind the building.
